Macau ended 2017 with a population of 653,100 people, which represents a real increase of 8,200 people compared to the number recorded at the end of 2016, according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.
The female population accounted for 53% of the total, the elderly population (aged 65 and older) increased by 0.7 percentage points to 10.5% and the adult population (aged 15-64 ) was 76.7% of the total, with a decrease of 10 basis points.
At the end of the year, Macau had 179,400 non-resident workers, a real increase of 1,818 compared to 2016, and the number of non-resident construction workers fell 12.8% year-on-year.
This fall, the third consecutive year in which this has occurred, is due to the successive completion of several resort and large-scale housing developments, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau.
With a land area of 30.5 square kilometres, Macau had a population density of 21,413 people per square kilometre. (macauhub)
