Macau sponsors environmental visit to Portugal and Germany

12 March 2018

An exchange visit by a delegation from the Pan-Pearl River Delta region to Portugal and Germany runs from 11 to 19 March, organised by the Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (Macau SAR), said the Office of the Secretary for Economics and Finance.

The statement said that the aim of this visit is to launch the “Green Tour” (Visita Verde) project, to allow the governments of the provinces and regions of the Pan-Pearl River Delta and environmental protection companies to promote their network of links with Portuguese-speaking countries and Europe.

The Pan-Pearl River Delta, also known as “9 + 2”, was established in 2004 and includes the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.

The promotion of environmental development in the country and the launch of various policies by the MSAR Government, which involve boosting environmental protection measures and raising environmental awareness, have shown a trend for this sector and, considering that Europe is ranked top in the development of the environmental industry, it was decided the “Green Tour” would cover ecological cities in Portugal and Germany.

During the visits to these countries, the delegation will be received by environmental associations and public services and visits are scheduled to companies that use advanced technologies to combat air, water, and soil pollution, as well as waste treatment companies.

In Germany, the mission will visit the German Water Partnership and SITA Remediation NV and in Lisbon the Association of Portuguese Companies for the Environment Sector (AEPSA), Águas de Portugal, the Portuguese environment agency and ECOSERVIÇOS-Gestão de Sistemas Ecológicos, Limitada.

The note recalls that the Macau International Environmental Cooperation Forum and Exhibition 2018 (MIECF 2018) will be held in Macau from 12 to 14 April, which will include interventions by some of the members of the Pan-Pearl River Delta region delegation, on what they took away from the visit and the new technologies observed.
