On Saturday, in the eastern area of the country, Guinea-Bissau launched its campaign to market cashew nuts that will run until September.
In 2016, Guinea-Bissau exported 180,000 tons of cashew nuts, but by 2017 this figure dropped to 163,000 tons.
In 2017 the price per kilogramme reached 1,000 CFA francs (about 1.5 euros), the highest ever price recorded in a cashew marketing campaign.
The International Monetary Fund recently said that cashew have been responsible for Guinea-Bissau’s good economic performance but warned of dependence on exports of the nut, advising further diversification of the economy.
