Co-operation in the tourism sector with benefits for both sides was the basis for the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Ministry of Finance, Commerce and the Blue Economy of São Tomé and Príncipe, the MGTO said in a statement released on Friday.
The memorandum stipulates that, in view of the importance and the weight of tourism in the Macau and SãoTomé and Príncipe economies, initiatives will be developed for the exchange of information on design, definition and implementation of policies for the sector, promotion of cooperation and partnerships between small and medium-sized tourism enterprises of both parties and to support the organisation of promotional visits of operators, travel agents and hoteliers.
The memorandum also includes initiatives such as exchange of information on the development of tourist markets and other technical and statistical data, support for the creation of a system of incentives for promotion of the tourism industry, particularly through studies on the tourism image of both sides and holding promotional activities, participation in fairs, business forums and other related activities.
MGTO has signed similar memoranda with six of the eight Portuguese-speaking countries, namely Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique in 2010, and Timor-Leste (East Timor) and Angola in 2013 and 2015, respectively. (macauhub)
