16 May 2018

A technical team from China that includes veterinarians is due to arrive in Brazil at the end of May to inspect and possibly accredit 84 cold storage facilities, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply said on Tuesday in Brasília.

The official statement also said the technical team’s trip had been confirmed in Beijing during the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Blairo Maggi’s meeting with Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan.

The 84 cold storage facilities are on a list that was handed over to the Chinese authorities for inspection, and the Brazilian ministry expects the Chinese technical team to approve a significant number of them.

The meeting in Beijing was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Aloysio Nunes Ferreira Filho, and analysed difficulties in the trade relations between the two countries.

Brazil currently has 102 lawsuits against China filed with World Trade Organization, due to some disputed trade practices.

Minister Blairo Maggi and the “Core Delegation,” a group of business people and entities representing Brazilian agribusiness, also met with the management of COFCO International, a Chinese cereal company. (macauhub)
