About 4,000 of the 30,000 vehicles expected to use the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge every day – are expected to enter Macau, Lam Hin San, Director of Traffic Affairs Services (DSAT), said on Thursday.
Lam Hin San also said that according to the same estimates, 40,000 people are expected to enter and leave the new border crossing of the bridge, which is located on an artificial island built between Zhuhai and Macau.
The bridge will also be used daily by more than 200 shuttle buses, which will be run by a company from Guangdong province with links to the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
Lam Hin San said a consensus had been reached to authorise 34 daily cross-border bus trips between Hong Kong and Macau and another 16 in the opposite direction.
Taxis have a quota of 100 vehicles for the two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau without a daily limit of travel and private vehicles are limited to 300 from Hong Kong and 600 from Macau, whose permits will be granted through a lottery.
The director of DSAT confirmed that the bridge will operate 24 hours a day but he declined to give a date for it to open, saying that it will be “very soon.” (macauhub)
