Municipality of Beijing and Macau sign three cooperation protocols

The Beijing Municipal Government and the Macau Special Administrative Region on Thursday signed three cooperation protocols under the joint title “Beijing-Macau 2018 Cooperation Partnership” to extend exchanges and ongoing cooperation between the two cities, taking advantage of the strengths of each, according to an official statement.

During the ceremony in Beijing Macau Chief Executive Chui Sai On mentioned the long-standing relationship between the two regions and stressed that the two territories will continue to deepen cooperation in the civic area through the development of exchange events between youth and mutual participation and creation of brands of major events and conventions, to further promote cooperation in the areas of economy, investment and tourism.

In addition, with the signing of protocols in the areas of traditional Chinese medicine, sport, science and technology, teaching and transport management, they will gradually begin cooperation and will continuously foster exchanges in different areas and levels, Chui Sai On said.

The Chief Executive also mentioned in his speech that Macau is establishing itself as a World Tourism and Leisure Center and a Platform for Services for Commercial Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. As such it intends to diversify the economy, take part in the Belt and Road initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay, creating more opportunities to deepen cooperation between Beijing and Macau.

The three protocols signed are focused on cooperation in winter sports, training and exchange of professionals and the entry of the Macau Government Tourist Office into the China World Heritage Tourism Promotion Alliance. (macauhub)
