1 June 2018

Macau is expected to join Zhuhai to explore future opportunities by announcing the details of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay Area, particularly as regards innovation and new models of cooperation, said the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau, Leong Vai Tac at a meeting with the highest official of the Chinese municipality.

The Macau government official met with Guo Yonghang, secretary of the Zhuhai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and called for strengthening and complementarity of relations between the two cities. He said that it was necessary to create partnerships in the financial, tourism, traditional Chinese medicine and science and technology sectors.

Yonghang said that Zhuhai will support Macau in diversifying its economy and called for greater cooperation in the Hengqin Free Trade Pilot Area to jointly develop new industries, encourage the movement of people and develop the logistics and financial sector of the island of Hengqin bordering Macau.

Leong Vai Tac also met with Yao Yisheng, the Mayor of Zhuhai, where he discussed strengthening relations and the search for new areas of cooperation for professionals, young people and small and medium-sized enterprises along with better housing conditions.

The Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau argued that two-way cooperation involves five key areas: promoting communication policies, linking infrastructure, free trade circulation, financial integration, and strengthening contacts between residents of each city.

During the Zhuhai-Macau Cooperation Meeting 2018, agreements were signed for internships and youth employment, economic and trade cooperation, and investment and financial cooperation. (macauhub)
