Japanese agency introduces techniques to increase rice production in Mozambique’s Zambézia province

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is introducing new production technologies to increase rice production and yield in the northern Mozambican province of Zambézia with the aim of tripling rice production, according to the O País newspaper.

According to the daily newspaper, new technologies are being introduced in six districts namely Maganja da Costa, Nicoadala, Namacurra, Mopeia, Quelimane and Inhassunge to increase production from the current 1.5 tons of rice to 4.5 tons.

According to the provincial director of Agriculture and Food Security, Jabula Zubia Zambézia province intends to produce 400 tons of rice in the current campaign.

The province of Zambézia has an area of more than 2 million hectares for food production in the 2018/2019 campaign. (macauhub)
