The People’s Republic of China has decided to donate 46 cars to São Tomé and Príncipe, due to arrive in October near the São Tomé capital as part of bilateral cooperation, one of the Chinese embassy’s advisers said on Thursday.
Economic advisor Gao Jinbao, made the announcement moments after signing a donation agreement in a document also signed by Charles Neto, the Financial Director of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The advisor said that of the 46 vehicles, 40 are six-seater taxis for the taxi drivers of São Tomé and six are for the paramilitary sectors assigned to the Ministry of Defence and Security.
The announcement of this donation from China comes less than a month after Chinese company Top International began construction work on the headquarters of the São Tomé and Príncipe Taxi Drivers’ Association, a government project intended to promote and organise the private sector in its development process.
