Macau hotels receive 8 million guests between January and July

More than 8 million guests stayed in Macau hotels and bed and breakfasts between January and July 2018, or a 6.8% increase over the same period of 2017, according to figures from the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

At the end of July there were 116 hotels and guesthouses with a total of 39,000 guest rooms. The territory’s 5-star hotels had 24,000 rooms accounting for 61.9% of the total occupancy.

According to DSEC in July 2018, 771,000 people visited Macau on excursions, an increase of 14% compared to the same month of 2017.

The number of visitors from mainland China (611,000) decreased by 7.5% year-on-year, but the number of visitors from Taiwan (63,000) and South Korea increased by 30.6% and 59.4%, respectively.

In the first seven months of this year, 5 million people visited Macau on excursions, or an additional 10.7% over the same period of 2017. (macauhub)
