Casimiro de Jesus Pinto, an advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau, has been appointed to serve as interim Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Office of Forum Macau.
Pinto, 48, a graduate of translation and interpreting from the Polytechnic Institute of Macau, was responsible for the Forum Macau portfolio at the office of Secretary Leong Vai Tac.
The new Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Office of Forum Macau previously served as Head of the Department of Linguistic Affairs of the Directorate of Administration and Civil Service and was an interpreter-translator with the Commission Against Corruption and the Macau Tourism Services Directorate.
Speaking to newspaper Ponto Final, Pinto said that his profession of interpreter-translator was an added value in the performance of his duties and could help in the connection and communication between the Portuguese-speaking countries and China.
Pinto, who is fluent in Portuguese and Chinese, replaces Gloria Batalha Ung, suspended from office on 26 June after the Commission against Corruption indicted her on charges of fraud in the assessment and authorisation of residence permits through investments in real estate, other investments and for specialised professionals.
Glória Batalha was also an executive member of the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Leong Vai Tac, also appointed Irene Va Kuan Lau as a substitute for the post of chair of the Board of Directors of IPIM replacing Jackson Cheong, also suspended from his duties on suspicion of involvement in the same case.
Jackson Cheong and Gloria Ung have been banned from leaving Macau. (macauhub)
