Angola is expected to increase its salt production four-fold to 440,000 tons over the next five years, the Angolan minister of Fisheries and the Sea, Victória de Barros Neto, said on Tuesday in Luanda.
The minister added that this figure includes an expected increase of 300% in current production of 110,000 tons, which will be enough to cover the country’s direct needs, according to the Angop news agency.
Barros Neto, who was speaking on the sidelines of the meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers, said that reaching this target will involve joint effort with the private sector.
With these measures, she said, Angola is intended to achieve self-sufficiency for domestic consumption and create surpluses for export to neighbouring countries and other international markets interested in Angolan salt. (macauhub)
