Ncondezi Energy intends to start commercial exploration of a 300-megawatt coal-fired power station and coal project in Tete province, central Mozambique, in the first half of 2023, the company said in a statement.
“This date is part of a new schedule and work programe that has now been finalised with potential strategic partners,” such as the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and state power company Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM), the document said.
The new schedule outlines that construction contracts will be awarded in the first quarter of 2019, that sales contracts will be signed in the first quarter of 2020 and the financial package will be signed off in the first half of 2020.
The statement said that the Mozambican government intends to ensure that by 2030 the entire population of the country has access to electricity, an objective that includes the production of 1,350 megawatts of power in coal-fired power stations. (macauhub)
