The result of the public tender authorising the entry of the fourth telecommunications operator in Angola will be announced in February, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications announced in Luanda.
Manuel Homem was speaking at a meeting to launch the 7th Angotic Forum, an information and communication technology exhibition scheduled for 18 to 20 June 2019.
Movicel, Unitel and Angola Telecom are the three authorized operators in the Angolan telecommunications sector, a market with 13 million users, six million of whom are Internet users, according to figures released by the Secretary of State.
Manuel Homem, quoted by the Jornal de Angola newspaper, said that the entry of the new operator will increase competition, is expected to improve services, lower prices and increase quality.
The Secretary of State said the challenges facing the sector in 2019 included the completion of the process of modernisation of e-governance infrastructure, the launch of broadband programmes, massification and digital inclusion – allowing an increase of the offer of Internet in schools and public spaces – as well as the process of privatization of Angola Telecom.
The 2019 Angotic Forum will be held at the Talatona Convention Centre under the motto “Making the Future,” with an expected 8,000 participants from Angola and abroad expected to attend this meeting – twice as many as this year – said the secretary of State. (macauhub)
