Macau International Airport received about 8.26 million passengers in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 15.0% and a new record, the Macau Airport Company (CAM) said in a statement.
CAM also reported that the number of aircraft movements, more than 65,000, represented an increase of 12.0% and, similarly to what happened with passengers, a new record.
Twenty-seven airlines currently operate at Macau International Airport, linking the territory to 51 destinations in China, Taiwan, Southeast and Northeast Asia.
Among these, the traffic with Mainland China and Southeast and Northeast Asia accounts respectively for 37% and 41% of the total number of passengers using the airport.
The Macau Airport Company also reported that the Taiwan market grew by only 1.0% in 2018, while Southeast Asia increased by 9.0% and Mainland China by 34.0%, with an increase of 11.0% in the number of passengers of low cost airlines and 18%for traditional carriers.
In 2018, Macau International Airport added 10 new routes to various destinations in China, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and Indonesia, and six new airlines – Small Planet Airlines, Royal Air Charter Service, Cambodia Airways, KC International Airlines, JSC Royal Flight Airlines and Zhejiang Loong Airlines.
