Macau and Shenzhen want to strengthen relations with Portuguese-speaking countries

Macau’s role as a service platform for trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries should be progressively improved in view of joint participation with Shenzhen in the “Belt and Road” initiative, the Chief Executive said on Thursday.

Chui Sai On at the end of a meeting with officials from Shenzhen Municipality, said that the two regions should take advantage of this construction period of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay to explore new prospects and horizons and deepen cooperation in the areas of youth, culture and tourism.

The Chief Executive said the meeting will help the two governments to promote greater interactivity and coordination in regional cooperation and development.

Chui Sai On and Shenzhen Mayor Chen Rugui led the respective delegations at the meeting where it was agreed to maintain and improve cooperation to achieve common projects while continuing to promote cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, the conventions and exhibitions sector, culture and youth exchanges.

The two leaders also agreed to extend cooperation to the legal and development areas of the Macau financial sector. At the end of the meeting a legal cooperation agreement and two memoranda were signed. (macauhub)
