Macau receives more than 35 million visitors in 2018

Macau received more than 35 million visitors in 2018, Macau Tourist Office Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said on Monday.

The forecast of visitor growth for 2018 was 3%, but as a result of the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge last October, the last two months of 2018 saw monthly visitor increases of 10%.

The director of the Macau Tourist Office said, however, that official figures to be released soon will give more accurate information on visitors to Macau in 2018.

In 2017 Macau received 32.6 million visitors and the forecast increase for 2018 was 9%.

Senna Fernandes said during a preparatory ceremony for an international gastronomic event that any attempt to reduce the number of visitors would affect the international image of Macau tourism.

The Director of the Macau Tourist Office has called for the need to improve the infrastructure of the territory, especially in terms of transport, in order to receive such a large number of tourists and also referred to the taxis that circulate in Macau and which, she said, do not meet the needs of tourists.

Senna Fernandes also said that the start-up this year of the light railway on Taipa Island could improve the situation. (macauhub)
