The World Bank will donate US$10 million to Sao Tome and Principe to help finance the construction of a tourism school, the institution’s regional director Elisabeth Huybens announced on Tuesday in Sao Tome.
The donation, under the bilateral cooperation programme, was made official with the signing of a document by the regional director of the World Bank and the Sao Tome minister of Planning, Finance and the Blue Economy, Osvaldo Vaz.
Huybens, who said that the project would likely be implemented this year, added that it aims to create employment opportunities for the citizens of Sao Tome and Principe through access to training initiatives that meet the demand in the labour market.
The regional director’s visit, which began on Tuesday, aims to ensure a strategy of engagement and partnership between the World Bank and Sao Tome and Principe, taking into account the priorities of the new government of the archipelago, which was took office just over a month ago. (macauhub)
