Macau received 35.8 million visitors in 2018, a new yearly record and a year-on-year increase of 9.8%, according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.
The bureau also reported that the average stay in Macau for visitors was 1.2 days, the same amount as in 2017.
In 2018, 25.2 million visitors from Mainland China, 6.3 million from Hong Kong and 1 million visitors from Taiwan arrived in Macau, with year-on-year percentage increases of 13.8%, 2.6% and 0.1%, respectively .
In December 2018 3.5 million visitors arrived in Macau, “with a monthly record established,” according to the Statistics and Census Bureau.
Mainland China accounted for 2.4 million visitors, up 18.4%, mainly from the provinces of Guangdong (963,800) and Hunan (121,100).
The director of the Macau Tourism Office said last week that the territory had received more than 35 million visitors in 2018.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said that as a result of the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge last October, the last two months of 2018 saw a monthly increase of 10% in visitor leading to the figures recorded at the end of the year. (macauhub)
