Construction Commission of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay holds first plenary meeting

30 January 2019

The first plenary meeting of the Working Commission for Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay included a retrospective of the work already completed and the planning of future activities, the Macau government spokesman said in a statement.

The statement said that the Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, as Chairman of the Commission, highlighted three important works, calling also for the joint efforts between the departments involved, their cooperation with the nationally established general plan and active participation in the construction of the Greater Bay.

Chui pointed out that there is specific work to be done, such as drawing up an attachment to Macau’s Five-Year Development Plan, adding information related to cooperation for the development of the Greater Bay, strengthening the creation of mechanisms for the creation of the Commission itself, the signing of the “Agreement to support the participation of Macau in the construction of the ‘Belt and Road'” with the National Commission for Development and Reform and also the holding of the “Youth Forum on Joint Construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay.”

“This work allows us to lay solid foundations for Macau’s active participation in the construction of the Greater Bay,” said Chui Sai On, addressing the members of the Working Commission.

The Chief Executive created the Working Commission for Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay in November 2018, and its responsibilities include coordinating the general plans and short, medium and long-term preparatory work for Macau’s participation in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay, and to conduct studies to draw up the respective political strategies, prepare the annual work programme and supervise its implementation, and also set guidelines and instructions on the activities to be carried out.

In addition, the Chief Executive, by order, established the “Expert Group for the Development of Innovation, Technology and the Smart City,” under the Working Commission for Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay, involving various departments of each government area. (macauhub)
