Macau ended 2018 with a population of 667,400 people, 53.1% of which are women and a real increase of 14,300 people compared with the end of 2017, according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).
DSEC noted that the elderly population, aged 65 and older, accounted for 11.1% of the population, an additional 0.6 percentage points, while the adult population (15 to 64 years old) accounted for 75.7% of the total population, minus 1.0 percentage points.
At the end of 2018, there were 188,4800 non-resident workers in Macau, 9,024 more than at the end of 2017, of which 53,000 worked in the hotel sector, restaurants and similar establishments, and 30,000 in civil construction, a similar number to 2017.
DSEC also reported that there were 3,532 Chinese immigrants living in Macau at the end of 2018, a real decrease of 674 on year, of which 2,262 were from Guangdong province and were 65.1% female. (Macauhub)
