Ninety percent of Macau’s 175,400 households accessed the Internet in 2018, a real increase of 6,600 households compared to 2017, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau.
The number of households that accessed fibre optic broadband Internet in the past year totalled 117,500 (67.0% of households that accessed the Internet), increasing by 11.2% over 2017.
The number of households that accessed the Internet through fixed broadband (41,600) recorded a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%.
The number of users aged three or more reached 527,400, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%, with a penetration rate of 83.8%, or 0.6 percentage points more year-on-year.
Most people who accessed the Internet did so for “communication” (94.4%) and “online entertainment” (81.9%), as well as for “information search” (79.6%), and “to read or download newspapers, magazines, etc.”
The number of people who used mobile phones in 2018 was 577,300, up by 2.9% compared to 2017 and the mobile penetration rate was equivalent to 91.7%, or 0.8 percentage points higher on the year. (Macauhub)
