China wants its global partnership with São Tomé and Príncipe to reach a higher level, Prime Minister Li Keqiang said in statements on Thursday in Boao, Hainan island.
Li Keqiang met with São Tomé and Príncipe Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus, who went to China to attend the annual Boao Forum for Asia, held from 26-29 March.
The Chinese prime minister also told Bom Jesus that China intends to deepen its bilateral relationship with São Tomé and Príncipe after diplomatic relations were reestablished in December 2016.
“Since then, mutual political trust has grown and important results have been achieved in a number of areas,” Li said, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Bom Jesus said that São Tomé and Príncipe welcomes Chinese companies that want to invest in the archipelago and mentioned fisheries, tourism and infrastructure as some of the sectors in need of investment.
Before travelling to Hainan Island, São Tomé and Príncipe’s Prime Minister was welcomed in Shanghai by the mayor, Ying Yong, and took the opportunity to call on the businesspeople of the city to invest in the archipelago. (Macauhub)
