Macau Chief Executive to visit Portugal

16 April 2019

Macau’s Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, will pay an official visit to Portugal from 11 to 19 May, heading a government delegation, with activities in Lisbon and Porto, according to an official statement.

Chui Sai On will be received in an audience by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and later by Prime Minister António Costa, with whom he “will exchange ideas about the consolidation of friendly relations between Macau and Portugal and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.”

The Chief Executive will also co-chair the 6th meeting of the Macau-Portugal Joint Commission with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, to promote collaboration in various fields.

The city of Lisbon will also be the stage for a photographic exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (Macau SAR).

Once the Lisbon part of the schedule has been completed, the Chief Executive will visit the city of Porto, where he will sign a memorandum of understanding for the cooperation framework to promote friendship.

The Macau-Portugal Joint Commission was established, according to the “Framework Agreement for Cooperation between the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Portuguese Republic,” with the aim of strengthening and implementing bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The fifth meeting was held in Macau in 2018, during the official visit of the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs. The fourth meeting was organised in 2016, during a visit by the Macau Chief Executive to Portugal. (Macauhub)
