Angolan Finance Ministry rejects payment of debts taken on outside the current rules

23 May 2019

The Angolan Finance Ministry will reject debts of public agents that are contracted outside the rules of execution of the State Budget, said on Wednesday in Luanda the Secretary of State for Finance and the Treasury.

Vera Daves said that if the rules in force were not followed, “the National Treasury will not be in a position to repay or settle debts, which may be a risk that the managers will have to bear.”

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference of the National Bank of Angola on the “Sustainability of International Reserves,” the Secretary of State publicly called on the public budgetary units to respect the rules of execution of the General State Budget.

The arrears outside the system are being certified, and this debt will be settled progressively until 2021.

The debt contracted and registered by the State between 2014 and 2016 to the national service providers is estimated at 391 billion kwanzas (about U$1.183 billion). (Macauhub)
