China has donated six new vehicles to the regional government of Príncipe Island, which is 93 miles off the island of São Tomé, as part of bilateral cooperation, a representative of the Chinese embassy in the São Tomé capital said on Thursday.
The vehicles, three vans and three off-road vehicles, were delivered on Thursday by the central government of the archipelago to the regional government of the island of Príncipe, in a ceremony held at the airport of the autonomous region, in the presence of the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Jorge Bom Jesus.
He said, “the six vehicles are the result of a donation from China under bilateral cooperation with a view to sustainable development,” of the West African archipelago.
Last March, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang received his São Tomé counterpart in Boao, Hainan province, China, and expressed his readiness to support the São Tomé and Príncipe General State Budget for 2019 and the archipelago’s structural projects, mainly the construction of a port and the refurbishment of the international airport.
