The 10th edition of the Forum and Global Exhibition of Information and Communication Technologies (Angotic 2019), organised by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies of Angola, begins on Tuesday focusing on agricultural technologies.
At the Talatona Convention Centre, under the theme of “Making the future,” it will pay special attention to agricultural technology, a sector that has more than 35 million hectares of arable land to explore.
For the 2018/2019 agricultural campaign, more than 5 million hectares were prepared in Angola by the business and family sector, with a view to producing 21 million tonnes of grains, tubers, fruits, vegetables and oilseed, in order to reduce imports.
Angotic, which will be on for three days, also presents technological tools for solving problems related to industry, banking and insurance, health, education, agriculture, fisheries, and other areas of the economy and society.
The Forum is taking place at a time when the sector is undergoing major transformations, with the reformulation of legislation, the restructuring of Angola Telecom – the basic network operator, and the launch of public tenders to grant licenses to new operators.
Public company AngolaTelecom, which for many years was the telecommunications backbone of the country, is undergoing restructuring and 45% of its capital will be sold to private companies, which will allow it to move into mobile telephony, a segment dominated by Unitel and Movicel. (Macauhub)
