The Chinese ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, Wang Wei and the São Tomé Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Osvaldo d’Abreu, signed an agreement this week to begin construction of 200 social houses in the archipelago this year.
Wang Wei said at the time that the construction of the houses will be in phases beginning in the districts of Lobata and Cantagalo, in the south and north of São Tomé Island, and are scheduled to be completed by 2024.
The São Tomé minister said that this project comes in response to the country’s great housing concern and unemployment, within the broad pillars of the government programme for the next four years.
São Tomé and Príncipe and the People’s Republic of China re-established diplomatic relations in late 2016, with the Beijing government clearly demonstrating support for the archipelago’s sustainable development plan. (Macauhub)
