United Kingdom was the largest source of tourists for Cabo Verde in first quarter

Tourists from the United Kingdom accounted for the biggest group in Caboe Verde in the first quarter of 2019 and were also stayed for the longest period with an average stay of 7.5 nights, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Cape Verdean hotel establishments received more than 233,700 guests in the first three months of the year, resulting in over 1.4 million overnight stays, up 8.5% and 4.5% respectively year-on-year.

The island of Sal was the most sought after, accounting for about 45.3% of entries in hotel establishments, according to figures released in Praia, followed by the island of Boa Vista, with 29.0% and Santiago with 10.6%.

Hotels remained the most sought-after accommodation, accounting for 85.7% of total arrivals, followed by bed and breakfasts with 5.1%, residential accommodation with around 3.9% and tourist villages with 3.0%.

Apart from the United Kingdom, the other major tourist markets were France, the Netherlands and Germany, which accounted for 13.3%, 12.6% and 11.5% of total inflows, respectively. (Macauhub)
