Macau welcomed 27.4 million visitors from January to August, up 18.0% year-on-year, with the average length of stay unchanged at 1.2 days, the Statistics and Census Bureau said.
A simple extrapolation of the first eight months of the year shows that Macau could receive about 41 million visitors in 2019, compared with 35.8 million visitors in 2018, a new annual record and a year-on-year increase of 9.8%.
Visitor arrivals from mainland China (19.5 million), South Korea (568,200), Hong Kong (4.9 million) and Taiwan (727,500) increased by 19.1%, 3.4 %, 21.8% and 0.9%, respectively.
In August, Macau welcomed 3.6 million visitors, up 6.5% year-on-year, for an average of 2.3 days.
The nine cities of the Pearl River Delta of the Greater Bay brought 1.1 million visitors to Macau, with year-on-year growth of 223.8%, of which 303,300 were from Zhuhai and 229,700 from Guangzhou, with annual growth of 49.9% and 17.8%, respectively. (Macauhub)
