Renewable energy and infrastructure construction are two areas under study in cooperation between China and São Tomé and Príncipe, São Tomé’s ambassador to China, Isabel Domingos said on Monday in Macau.
The ambassador, speaking to Portuguese news agency Lusa, also said that the outcome of cooperation with China is “extremely positive and consensual between the two sides.”
São Tomé and Príncipe and the People’s Republic of China resumed diplomatic relations in December 2016 after São Tomé and Príncipe cut ties with Taiwan, which it had recognised in 1997, when it suspended its relationship with China.
“The challenges that we set out to meet, both on the Chinese side and on the São Tomé side, have been executed very efficiently and [there is] a lot of interest from both parties to continue to deepen [the relationship],” said Isabel Domingos, on the sidelines of a meeting with the Sao Tomé community in Macau, during which the ambassador, in office since 2018, honoured the Association of São Tomeans and Friends of São Tomé and Príncipe, Macau-China.
During the meeting, the diplomat presented the São Tomé association with a certificate of recognition for the “work done” in supporting the community in the Chinese special administrative region, totalling about 30 people, and promoting the country. (Macauhub)
