China starts construction of social housing in São Tomé and Príncipe

The cornerstone for the construction of five social housing buildings in the Lobata and Cantagalo districts was laid on Tuesday in São Tomé and Príncipe at a ceremony attended by the Chinese Prime Minister and the Chinese Ambassador to the country, the local press reported.

The five three-storey buildings, to be built within the framework of bilateral cooperation between São Tomé and Príncipe and China, will be built in Lobata (two buildings) and in Cantagalo (three), each with 12 apartments, making a total of 60, according to the STP-Press.

São Tomé Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus stressed the importance of the ceremony and said it was “a moment of consolidation of strengthened ties that have lasted for decades and will continue to grow.”

Chinese Ambassador Wang Wei said he hoped that with this project, “São Tomé workers, technicians and the government will be able to cooperate with Chinese companies, with the common goal of writing a new chapter on cooperation between China and São Tomé and Príncipe.” (Macauhub)
