Cabo Verde receives 553,000 tourists in first nine months of the year

The number of tourists that stayed in Cabo Verdes hotel establishments in the period from January to September 2019 rose by 7.5% to 553,600, said the archipelagos National Statistics Institute (INE).

The tourists provided overnight stays of over 3.7 million, or a yearonyear increase of 3.9%, also according to INE.

The figures for the third quarter totalled 181,600 tourists staying in hotel establishments and 1.2 million overnight stays, with on year increases of 6.8% and 1.9%, respectively, whereas the average stay of 6.7 nights fell to 6.5 nights.

Hotels remained the most popular establishments, representing 89.1% of the total number of entries, followed by bed and breakfasts with 3.7%, and then inns and tourist villages with 2.7% and 2.6%, respectively.

Sal Island welcomed the biggest number of tourists, with 48.4% of the total number of entries, followed by the island of Boa Vista, with 29.8% and 11.6% for Santiago Island.

The main source of tourists in the third quarter remained the United Kingdom, with 25.1% of the total number of entries, followed by Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and France, accounting for 15.2%, 9.9%, 8.0% and 7.3%, respectively. (macauhub)
