Angolan Parliament approves new family of kwanza banknotes

The introduction of the new family of kwanza banknotes with an image of just the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto, will be progressive, particularly for notes of higher face value, the governor of the Angolan National Bank said on Thursday in Luanda.

José de Lima Massno was speaking at the end of the approval by the National Assembly of the draft law to authorise the central bank to put the new family of kwanza banknotes into circulation, which no longer include an image of the second president, José Eduardo dos Santos.

The new notes, with values of 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 kwanzas also have illustrations of the natural wonders of Angola.

On the 200 banknotes are the Pedras Negras de Pungo a Ndongo (Malange), on the 500 is Fenda de Tundavala (Huíla), on the 1,000 the cordillera of the Central Plateau (Huambo), on the 2,000 the Serra da Leba (Huíla), on the 5,000 the ruins of the Cathedral of São Salvador do Congo  (Zaire) and on the 10,000 the Caves of Zenzo (Uíge). (macauhub)
