Almost all of Macau’s population accessed the Internet in 2019

More than 92% or 182,300 households in Macau accessed the Internet in 2019, a real increase of 6,900 households, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau, adding that those who had access via broadband reached 138,800 or 76.1% of the total.

The Bureau also reported that the number of households accessing the Internet via broadband has seen continuous growth, and compared with 2018 it registered an increase of 18.1%.

It was also found that 178,500 households accessed the Internet via mobile broadband, representing 97.9% of the total, or an additional 3.3 percentage points, indicating that few households have never used mobile broadband, according to the same data.

The rate of Internet penetration in Macau was 86.5% (+2.7 percentage points, on year) in 2019.

The number of individuals who used mobile phones was 594,000, having risen 2.9%, compared to 2018 and the mobile penetration rate amounted to 92.7%, 1.0 percentage points higher on year.

The survey on the Use of Information Technology in Households in 2019 gathered information about individuals aged three or older that used this technology, in the form of a supplementary questionnaire to the Employment Survey for the fourth quarter of 2019. (macauhub)
