2020 edition of Expo-Huíla, in Angola, is cancelled

29 April 2020

The 2020 edition of Expo-Huíla, an international trade fair that is held annually in the Angolan city of Lubango, has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said the president of the Huíla Agro-Livestock, Industrial and Commercial Association (AAPCIL).

Paulo Gaspar told the Jornal de Angola newspaper that for the first time in 29 years the event, which is held in the month of August at the time of the festivities of Nossa Senhora do Monte, the patron saint of the city, had been cancelled.

“Unfortunately, this year because of the pandemic, we will not be holding Expo-Huíla, which will cause a lot of damage, both to AAPCIL, and to the business sector itself, which uses the event as the largest showcase for businesses and business opportunities in Huila province and the southern region,” Gaspar said.

He also said that AAPCIL is an association that very much relies on Expo-Huíla, as the income from hiring pavilions keeps the association afloat for the following 12 months of the year.

He noted that AAPCIL has 14 permanent members of staff and ongoing costs to keep its offices open and work on behalf of its members.

AAPCIL, which organises Expo-Huíla, was founded in 1991 and has over 2,000 members. (macauhub)
