“Meteorological Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (2020-2035)”

The Meteorological Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (2020-2035)  (hereinafter referred to as the Plan) was formally announced.

In order to fully implement the provisions of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to promote greater integration of Hong Kong and Macao in national meteorological development, the China Meteorological Administration in partnership with the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau, the Hong Kong Observatory and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, prepared this Plan. In addition to jointly improving the level of weather forecasting, prevention and mitigation of natural disasters, the Plan also promotes the construction of a Greater Bay Area Meteorological Monitoring, Warning and Forecasting Centre, and drives the development of advanced meteorological services in the Greater Bay. At the same time, Macao will actively play its role as a platform for Portuguese-speaking countries, and intensify exchange and cooperation with the relevant countries, and actively take part in  international meteorological affairs.

The Plan’s objective is mutual and beneficial cooperation and the development of a deep integration base in the Greater Bay by 2025. Cooperation involves modern operational meteorological services, scientific, technological and management innovation. Its goal is for these meteorological services to reach global standards by 2035.

The main contents presented in the Plan involve five aspects, respectively: system building, the provision of high quality meteorological services, the advancement of the main meteorological techniques, the consolidation of the meteorological development base and the deepening of international cooperation.
