IPIM Organises Webinar to Facilitate Macao’s Development into a Sustainable MICE Destination

10 August 2021

Sustainability of the overall local environment is an important consideration for organisers in selecting destinations for holding MICE events. And for this reason, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) hosted a webinar on “Creating a Sustainable MICE Destination” on 29 July.

Guy Bigwood, Managing Director of Gubi Consulting & Global Sustainability Index (Barcelona), was invited as the keynote speaker of the webinar to elaborate on the importance of sustainability to the MICE industry, some of the best practices and the costs thereof, as well as factors surrounding sustainable MICE events. Mr. Bigwood also shared his experience through a case study and had in-depth discussions and exchanges with participants. Some participants believed that sustainable development is critical for crafting Macao into a MICE destination. Some participants also observed that the cost of resources incurred in pursuit of sustainable development is a major concern for event organisers.

Moreover, IPIM plans to host another webinar in late August, which will be themed around the topic of development trends of the MICE market in the post-pandemic era. Interested parties are encouraged to stay tuned to the latest MICE training updates released through IPIM’s “Macao MICE Portal” website at www.mice.gov.mo.

IPIM will continue organising online workshops and invite MICE consultants or seasoned professionals to share practical MICE knowledge and introduce the latest development trends of the international MICE industry, giving continuous support to the industry professionals in spite of the pandemic and reinforcing their professional knowledge, thereby promoting the professionalisation and marketisation of the industry.
