Thirty-five signed agreements were the most visible result of this year’s edition of the Macau International Environmental Cooperation Forum (MIECF), which ran from 12 to 14 April organised by the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
The platform provided by MIECF attracted representatives from governments, business people and academics from all over the world, who decided to participate in the event in Macau. During this 11th edition there was an increase of 28% in the number of contact meetings in the area of environmental protection, with a total of 349.
The three-day event demonstrated the benefits of having an international platform in the area of environmental protection and promoted exchanges and cooperation between companies in the sector, including the countries and regions covered by the “Belt and Road” along with the Pan Pearl River Delta Region, the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Metropolitan Region, as well as Portuguese-speaking countries and European countries, among others.
The “Green Forum,” one of the main highlights of MIECF 2018, had a total of six regular sessions and one special session, involving more than 50 speakers, ranging from pioneers in the field of environmental protection, leaders of multinationals and decision makers from a number of countries and regions, including mainland China, Australia, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, the United States, Hong Kong and Macau.
These participants shared their ideas for different areas, such as eco-tourism, sustainable exhibitions, building ecological cities, and the development of finance and environmentally-friendly chemicals. There was also exchange of information on the potential for deepening environmental cooperation at different levels between different regions, facilitating wide and active collaboration.
This year’s edition of the “Green Forum” attracted more than 3,900 participants. The “Green Show” was attended by more than 490 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions, who presented ecological solutions to combat air, water and land pollution and promote the construction of sustainable cities.
In order to give priority to environmental protection and sustainable development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay, a special area for the promotion of environmentally-friendly products and services was inaugurated as part of this year’s “Green Show” to promote environmental cooperation within the context of the Great Bay.
In addition, the “Green Show” continued to include the “Area of Innovative Technologies for Environmental Protection” and the “Pavilion on Sustainable Construction” for environmentally-friendly construction products and services, as well as the “Sustainable Transport Exhibition Area,” focused on the presentation of various environmental transport solutions.
The quality of MIECF’s activities, as well as the degree of professionalism shown in its presentation, has steadily increased, which has contributed to the recognition of the event as an important initiative on the international environmental protection scene.
In addition to being accredited by the UFI – Global Exhibition Industry Association in 2011, MIECF was honoured in 2017 with the “Conference and Exhibition Excellence Award” awarded by the Macau Convention and Exhibition Association. (macauhub)
