Chinese group HNA, which owns Hainan Airlines, taking a stake in airline TAP - Portugal depends on approval by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), according to the Portuguese press. The group holds a 23.7 percent in Brazilian airline Azul, the airline that is part of the Atlantic Gateway consortium,which under a memorandum signed in February with the Portuguese government holds a 45 percent stake in TAP. The Portuguese stake owns 50 percent and TAP's workers have 5 percent.

China and the eight Portuguese-speaking countries began 2016 with a year on year fall of 18.69 percent in trade in January, which totalled US$6.158 billion, according to Chinese official figures published in Macau. Trade with Brazil totaled US$4.419 billion (-20.61 percent), with China exporting goods worth US$1.682 million (-17.89 percent) and importing goods worth US$2.737 billion (-22.19 percent).

Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer in 2015 delivered 120 executive aircraft and 101 commercial aircraft, and for the latter exceeded its initial forecast, the company said in a statement issued Thursday. In the same statement, Embraer said this year it expects to deliver between 105-110 commercial jet aircraft and in the executive aviation segment between 40 to 50 large aircraft and 75 to 85 light jets.

China became the main destination for beef produced in Brazil, only eight months after the Chinese authorities lifted an embargo after a case of BSE, or "mad cow" disease, in the state of Paraná, Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo reported. From June 2015, when shipments were resumed, to January 2016 China bought Brazilian beef worth US$517 million. This accounted for 16 percent of total revenue from beef exports, according to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.

Brazil's government has restated its support for the project by the Angola Cables company to connect Angola to Brazil by undersea cable and consequently to South America, during a meeting in Brasilia, Angolan news agency Angop reported. Upon receiving the ambassador of Angola in Brazil, Nelson Cosme, the Brazilian Minister of State and of Communications, André Figueiredo, once again gave assurances that Brazil supported Angola Cables' projects in Brazil, which are focused on management of the 6,600-kilometre undersea cable that will link Luanda to Fortaleza.

The value of trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries fell by 25.73 percent in 2015 to US$98.474 billion, a real loss of US$34.106 billion, according to official Chinese figures. The only positive changes in the value of trade occurred in Timor Leste (East Timor - US$106.67 million or +76.48 percent) and Sao Tome and Principe (US$7,9 million or +37.99 percent).

The bleak economic outlook in key markets for Portugal such as Angola, Brazil and China, may lead to a drop in Portuguese exports to those countries, according to a recent report by the European Commission. The document also said that in addition to a fall in Portuguese exports to these countries, there could also be a decrease in foreign direct investment (FDI) from these countries in Portugal.

Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer Wednesday presented the new E190-E2, the first jet aircraft of the second generation of the E-Jet family for commercial aviation, in a ceremony held at its headquarters in São José dos Campos, in the state of Sao Paulo. The E2 programme, in which we invested 1.7 billion dollars, was launched in June 2013 and represents "Embraer's commitment to continuously invest in the line of business jets and maintain market leadership in the segment of 70-130 seats."

Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer has established a long-term agreement with Colorful Guizhou Airlines, of China for the supply of parts for a fleet of E190 jet aircraft, the company said in a statement. Founded in June 2015, Colorful Guizhou Airlines is the first local airline in Guizhou province and also the first E190 customer in the region, having signed an order for up to 17 E190 (seven firm and 10 options) with Embraer, two of which were delivered and put into operation in December 2015.

Brazil has overtaken China in the production of chicken meat to become the world's second largest producer, according to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), cited by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). Brazilian poultry producers last year produced 13.146 million tons of chicken meat, an annual increase of 3.58 percent, while China, according to the USDA, produced 13.025 million tons.

China bought 191.6 million tons of iron ore from Brazil in 2015, a 12.1 percent increase over 2014, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs. The Brazilian iron ore accounted for 20.1 percent of total Chinese imports of this commodity in 2015 - an increase from the 18.3 percent weight recorded in 2014, according to Reuters.

The president of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIBC), Charles Tang said in São Paulo that Chinese investment in Brazil in 2016 was expected to total between US$20 and US$30 billion. Charles Tang told Brazilian financial daily Diáio do Comércio that the state of Minas Gerais was expected to be one of the main destinations of Chinese investment particularly in the iron ore sector.

Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer delivered 221 jets in 2015, of which 101 wee in the segment of commercial aviation and 120 in executive aviation, the group said in a statement issued Thursday in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The company said the 221 aircraft delivered last year for those two market segments represented the largest number of deliveries over the past five years.
