The governments of Brazil and China in September plan to sign a cooperation agreement on trade and services during the next G-20 summit meeting, said the Presidency of Brazil. The subject was dealt with by incumbent president, Michel Temer, with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Services, Marcos Pereira, on 17 August, at the Presidential Palace.

CBERS-4A (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite) is scheduled to be launched in 2018 to ensure the images remain available to users of the data from the programme, Brazilian state news agency Senado reported. The new satellite's technical proposal was presented to directors of the Chinese National Space Agency (CNSA) and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) last April.

Brazilian investment bank BTG Pactual has decided not to purchase Banif Brasil, withdrawing its non-binding bid to purchase the Brazilian subsidiary of the Banif Portugal banking group, the bank announced in a statement to the market. The proposed purchase, which involved other assets of the Banif Portugal group and Oitante, was withdrawn due to “non-verification of the precedent conditions contained in the bid,” indicates the statement released on Wednesday.

The China State Grid group is analysing the purchase of the Brazilian company CPFL Energia, a deal which could amount to US$13 billion, the biggest-ever investment by a Chinese company in Brazil, reports the Wall Street Journal. CPFL Energia is Brazil’s largest private electric power production and distribution company, ranking third in size after state-held Electrobras and CEMIG.

China’s Hainan Airlines, a subsidiary of the HNA group, has completed the purchase of a 23.7 percent stake in Azul Brazilian Airlines for which it paid US$450 million, indicates a statement released on Thursday. The purchase in Brazil’s third largest airline makes Hainan Airlines the largest shareholder, able to appoint three members of the company’s board of directors.

Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica (Embraer) delivered 47 commercial aircraft and 49 corporate aircraft in the first half of 2016, the company indicated in a statement disclosing its second quarter and first half-year results. In the second quarter, the company delivered 26 commercial aircraft and a like number of corporate aircraft (23 light aircraft and three large ones).

China’s BYD automotive group (http://www.byd.com/) is further developing its relationship with the Correios group, Brazil’s top postal service provider, with the aim of expanding in that market, an official source from the Shenzhen-based group told the China Daily newspaper. Last March the BYD group ceded a T3 model electric minivan to the Correios group, which is evaluating ‘green’ logistics solutions by testing electric vehicles from different manufacturers, especially those promising energy efficiency in urban traffic.

China’s Fosun group has completed the purchase of Rio Bravo Investimentos, one of the most important private investment management companies in Brazil, with a portfolio of nearly US3$billion, the group announced in a statement released in São Paulo. “The operation is part of Fosun’s growth strategy in emerging countries and aims to expand business in Latin America. This is the Fosun group’s first acquisition in the region and represents one more step to leverage local investment potentials following the acquisitions of Idera Capital in Japan in 2014 and Resolution Property in the United Kingdom in 2015, along with the creation of Fosun Eurasia in Russia, also in 2015,” the statement indicates.

Chinese consumer electronics group TCL plans to invest US$60 million in building a factory in Brazil to manufacture liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions, reported Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei). The Chinese group's investment will be made under a 40/60 partnership with Brazilian electronics group SEMP Toshiba, known when it was founded in 1942 as Sociedade Eletro Mercantil Paulista.

Chinese companies are expected to make major investments in the coming months in Brazil, especially in infrastructure, including electricity transmission grids and raw materials, Brazilian newspaper O Estado de São Paulo reported. Assets of Electrobás, such as subsidiaries Electrosul and CELG, are being offered to various investors, both in China and other countries. Other businesses in the sector, such as the Santo Antonio Hydroelectric Power Station on the Madeira River, which has among its shareholders the Odebrecht group, are also up for sale.

Twenty-five executives and technicians from the traditional medicine sector in Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste (East Timor) took part in a symposium in Macau organised by the Training Centre of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau), according to official information. The conference, which began on 18 July was held at the Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry-park, whose facilities were visited on Wednesday by the executives and technicians in order to see current development.

Chinese automotive company Zotye Auto plans to build a car factory Goianésia, Brazil, under an investment contract signed with the state government in the city of Goiás, the Brazilian press reported. In 2014, after a representative of the company announced the arrival of the brand in Brazil, Zotye Auto began negotiating with TAC Motors and eventually purchased the brand's operations in the state of Santa Catarina, for 190 million reais.

Cape Verdean public transport company Solatlantico will receive ten Volkbus 17.210 buses purchased in Brazil from MAN Latin America to add to the passenger transport network in Praia, the capital of the Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) archipelago. Henrique Duarte, managing partner of operator SolaAtlantico, told the Cape Verdean press that after an initial purchase of 16 Volkbus 9.150, "which have had an excellent performance," it was decided to acquire 10 units of the new model from the Brazilian company that manufactures MAN and Volkswagen commercial vehicles.

World demand for jet aircraft in the segment of 70-130 seats from 2016 to 2035 will total 6,400 units, according to the forecasts of Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer disclosed at the Farnborough Air Festival in the United Kingdom. Embraer projects demand for aircraft with between 70 and 90 seats to total 2,300 units while for aircraft with 90 to 130 seats demand is expected to reach 4,100 units, with the overall demand in the period valued at around US$300 billion.
