The sale of Cape Verdean shipyard company Cabnave is far from being completed, wrote Cape Verdean newspaper Expresso das Ilhas, which noted that Portuguese group ETE had made the best financial offer for the company's privatisation tender. The Portuguese group recently announced it had qualified "first in the international public tender for the privatisation of Cabnave, shipyards on the island of Sao Vicente in Cabo Verde, and the next step is financial negotiations and the final terms of the 30-year concession contract."

The fourth summit of heads of government of Portugal and Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) takes place on 20 February in Praia announced last week the Cape Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luís Filipe Tavares. The minister, who was speaking to journalists in the capital, said that the documents for the summit, during which the 2016-2020 Strategic Cooperation Programme will be signed "are finalised."

The Prime Minister of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Ulisses Correia e Silva said in Paris that from January French business groups will visit the archipelago to study the possibility of investing in the country. "In the first week of next year, we will receive a visit from three or four big French companies, in the second week, we will have other companies, notably related to maritime transport," confirmed the Cape Verdean Prime Minister.

The projects of the African Portuguese Speaking Countries and Timor-Leste (PALOP-TL) financed by the European Union will be finalised on Thursday and Friday during technical meetings held in Praia, the capital of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde). The ministerial meeting on Friday, which will assess the projects to be financed by the 11th European Development Fund, with the participation of the Director General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission, Stefano Manservisi.

The economy of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) is expected to see real growth of 3.2% this year, supported by foreign direct investment, domestic demand, agriculture and tourism, as well as a slight recovery in Europe, said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a report released on Wednesday in Washington. The growth forecast in 2016 is contained in the final report of the technical mission that visited Cabo Verde in October in which it forecasts that the archipelago will grow 3.7% in 2017 and 4.1% in the years 2018, 2019 and 2010.

The Bolloré group plans to resume talks with the current government of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) for the management of the archipelago's main ports on a sub-concession basis, Peter Vidicas, of Bolloré Logistics, told Cape Verdean radio station Morabeza. "Bolloré has always focused on French-speaking countries, we are now focusing on the Portuguese-speaking ones and Cabo Verde is part of our future strategy," Vidicas said on the sidelines of the Cabo Verde International Fair recently held in Praia.

Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) needs, urgently, to create a Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to facilitate access to finance, said Finance Minister Olavo Correia recently. The government will also propose the creation of a sovereign fund to support large companies with access to finance in the international market, the minister said.

The Bucan Construções e Imobiliária group and Cabo Verde Management have signed a contract to work with China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corporation for the construction of a hotel on the island of Santa Maria, the Cape Verdean press reported. The hotel, which will be managed by the Spanish hotel chain Barceló Hotels & Resorts, will have 1,150 rooms and will be built in two phases, the first of which will begin in April 2017 and is expected to take 24 months and cost 122 million euros.

The number of tourists arriving in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) in the period from January to September increased 12.9% year on year to 461,600, while the number of overnight stays increased 11.0% to 3.0 million, reported the National Statistics Institute (INE) of the archipelago. In the third quarter the number of tourists increased by 6.6% year on year to 138,000 tourists and overnight stays increased by 5.2% to more than 955,000, according to the same figures.

The Prime Minister of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) on Monday admitted the possibility of dissolution of the country's flagship airline, Transportes Aereos de Cabo Verde (TACV), but gave assurances that the government will do everything to avoid this scenario, reported the Cape Verdean press. Ulisses Correia da Silva said the "company's health is complicated" and the government was working with the World Bank to find a strategic partner for TACV so it "can continue to fly."

The government of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) plans to conduct a study on tax competitiveness in 2017, a document that will serve as a guide for the next steps to reduce rates of tax, the country's Finance Minister announced Friday in Praia. Minister Olavo Correia told businessmen from the archipelago's Leeward islands at a meeting to discuss the 2017 state budget proposal that the study is intended to "create a more competitive tax environment, a more tax efficient machine that is more capable of serving the state, businesses and citizens."

The Budget Support Group (BSG) urged Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) to settle "quickly the unsustainable financial situation" of public air transport and housing companies, saying that delays in restructuring represent "a big risk" to the economy, according to a statement published on Wednesday in Praia. The statement from the BSG, whose members are the African Development Bank, World Bank, Luxembourg, Portugal and the European Union, was read at the end of the second annual assessment mission to Cabo Verde made by that body, which ended on Wednesday.

The government of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) is expected to present concrete solutions for flagship airline TACV in the first quarter of 2017, said Monday in Praia the Minister of Economy and Employment, quoted by news agency Inforpress. José Gonçalves confirmed there would be redundancies in the company, "which is going through difficult times and it has been kept in operation by the National Treasury through large monthly transfers," but declined to say how many workers will be laid off.

Cristina Morais term as coordinator of the Support Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese Speaking Countries ended on 2 November, according to an order of the Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance. The order from Secretary Leong Vai Tac appoints Cristina Morais for a period of one year to the post of head of the Department of External Economic Relations of the Macau Economic Office, with effect from 3 November.

Spanish group Meliá Hotels International will reinforce its presence in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) with the addition of a tourist resort with three new 4-and 5-star hotels and a total of 600 rooms on the island of Santiago, the group announced in a statement issued on Wednesday in Palma, Mallorca. The resort will feature the Meliá Lusofonia Resort & Spa, Meliá Lusofonia and Meliá Lusofonia Residences with 320, 150 and 130 rooms respectively, which should become operational between 2019 and 2020 as soon as construction is completed.
