A Chinese business delegation currently visiting Guinea-Bissau said on Tuesday it intended to organise a trade fair involving companies from both countries, according to the delegation's spokeswoman. The intention was expressed by Jessica Zhao, spokeswoman for the delegation during a meeting with the Mayor of Bissau (CMB), Adriano Ferreira.

The government of Guinea-Bissau has begun distributing to farmers the agricultural production resources, namely seed and fertiliser, donated by China at a ceremony last weekend in Bafatá. Official information indicates that the donation involves 500 tons of rice seed, 617 of fertiliser and 20 of peanuts, along with bean varieties, and also six new tractors and several power tillers. They will be placed at the disposal of farmers in the country’s 39 sectors and 8 regions, including the Autonomous Sector of Bissau.

A delegation of Chinese technical personnel will soon arrive in Bissau to begin a project to manufacture tractors and other agricultural machinery in Guinea-Bissau, said Beijing’s ambassador in the West African country. Wang Hua made his statement during a Friday ceremony during which he delivered to the Guinea-Bissauan government machinery and other goods meant to help produce rice, “so that the country can become self-sufficient in this cereal”.

Twenty-five executives and technicians from the traditional medicine sector in Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste (East Timor) took part in a symposium in Macau organised by the Training Centre of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau), according to official information. The conference, which began on 18 July was held at the Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry-park, whose facilities were visited on Wednesday by the executives and technicians in order to see current development.

Twenty-five employees from the government tourism agencies of Angola, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Timor-Leste (East Timor) took part in Macau in training activities organised by the Macau Government Tourist Office, between April and July. Training of the last of three groups "successfully" ended last week. The training included an internship at the Tourism Services Office.

Guinea-Bissau raised 11 billion CFA francs (US$18.4 million) with the full placement on Monday of an issue of treasury bonds, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said on Wednesday in Bissau in a statement. "This operation was part of the implementation of Guinea-Bissau's government bond issuance programme, in accordance with the medium and long-term debt management strategy, aiming to meet commitments within the agreed deadlines," the statement said.

Guinea-Bissau plans to issue Treasury Bonds issued in the amount of 11 billion CFA francs (US$18.4 million), the public debt management agency of the West African Monetary Union (UEMOA) said in a statement. The UEMOA - Securities Agency also said the public debt issue, scheduled for next Monday through an auction, has a maturity of three years paying an interest rate of 5.5 percent.

Agriculture, fishing, tourism and mining are priority areas where Chinese companies can invest in Guinea-Bissau, said Thursday in Macau a delegate of Macau Forum from the West African country. Malam Becker Camara also said during a seminar on Guinea-Bissau organised by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) jointly with the Permanent Office of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese Speaking Countries (Macau), the Macau platform can help with the internationalisation of products from their country.

Guinea-Bissau will take part in the next economic summit between China and African countries, due to be held in Beijing this year, the Guinean Prime Minister, Baciro Dja said Friday in Bissau. The confirmation from the head of the Guinea-Bissau government was made to the Chinese ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua, during an audience that also discussed cooperation issues between the two countries.

The Company Formalisation Centre (CFE) of Guinea-Bissau from May 2011 to May 2016, registered 46 companies whose owners are from China or Guineans associated with citizens from that country. Statistical data from the CFE to which Macauhub had access Thursday showed that the 46 companies are linked to agriculture, fisheries, catering, clothing sales, cosmetics and computer products, among others.

Portuguese businesspeople plan to invest in the agricultural sector in Guinea-Bissau, said Thursday in Bissau the head of the Portuguese delegation at the end of an audience granted by the President José Mario Vaz. Antonio Tavares said that this is a set of distinct projects that are likely to contribute to the development of agriculture with a view to establishing the country's food self-sufficiency.

China has offered two hundred and fifty solar lampposts to be installed in several neighbourhoods and roads in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, the city's Mayor announced. Adriano Ferreira added that the ship carrying the lampposts was already its way to Guinea-Bissau and was due to arrive at the capital'sport within two weeks.

China is willing to help Guinea-Bissau to achieve food self-sufficiency, which "will require work and the involvement of all Guineans," China's ambassador, Wang Hua said in Canchungo. "There is a lot of work to do for Guinea-Bissau to reach its food independence and solve the hunger problem in the country," said the Chinese diplomat, who stressed the need for joint efforts between Guineans and the international community.

China will pay for work to be carried out on the building of the National Popular Assembly (ANP) of Guinea-Bissau, the country's parliament, China's ambassador to Guinea-Bissau said Tuesday in Bissau. Ambassador Wang Hua said after a meeting with President of the National Assembly that Cipriano Cassama had told him about the parliament's operating difficulties, which can be overcome with "the support of China, which financed and built the building."

Trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries contracted by 23.03 percent year on year in the first quarter of the year to US$16.727 billion, according to official figures published in Macau. Over the first three months of the year China exported to the eight Portuguese-speaking countries goods worth US$5.844 billion (-44.95 percent) and imported goods amounting to US$10.882 billion (-2.1 percent), assuming a deficit of US$5.038 billion.
