China is willing to help Guinea-Bissau to achieve food self-sufficiency, which "will require work and the involvement of all Guineans," China's ambassador, Wang Hua said in Canchungo. "There is a lot of work to do for Guinea-Bissau to reach its food independence and solve the hunger problem in the country," said the Chinese diplomat, who stressed the need for joint efforts between Guineans and the international community.

China will pay for work to be carried out on the building of the National Popular Assembly (ANP) of Guinea-Bissau, the country's parliament, China's ambassador to Guinea-Bissau said Tuesday in Bissau. Ambassador Wang Hua said after a meeting with President of the National Assembly that Cipriano Cassama had told him about the parliament's operating difficulties, which can be overcome with "the support of China, which financed and built the building."

Trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries contracted by 23.03 percent year on year in the first quarter of the year to US$16.727 billion, according to official figures published in Macau. Over the first three months of the year China exported to the eight Portuguese-speaking countries goods worth US$5.844 billion (-44.95 percent) and imported goods amounting to US$10.882 billion (-2.1 percent), assuming a deficit of US$5.038 billion.

The Chinese ambassador in Guinea-Bissau Saturday called for the need to create political stability in the West African country in order to have more Chinese investment. Huang Wa, who was speaking in Bissau during the Meeting of Businesspeople for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries, said that China is prepared to place thousands of Chinese businesspeople in Guinea-Bissua but that a business platform that allows business to be conducted needs to be built.

A delegation from Macau is due to attend a meeting between businesspeople from China and the Portuguese-speaking countries - "Guinea-Bissau in 2016" - taking place on 9 and 10 April in Bissau, said the Macau Institute for Trade and Investment Promotion (IPIM). IPIM, which organised the Macau delegation, reported that the delegation took part Thursday in the "Business Opportunities Forum between China, Portugal and the Macau Special Administrative Region," held in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

Guinea-Bissau will receive 150 official and business delegations for a meeting in Bissau of businesspeople from China and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, the coordinator of the meeting's technical office said recently. Giving an update on preparations for the meeting, coordinator Bruno Jauad gave assurances that "everything is ready" to welcome the delegations to Bissau on 9, 10 and 11 April.

Next April Guinea-Bissau will host the meeting of businesspeople from China and the Community of the Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), China's ambassador to Guinea-Bissau confirmed last week. "We note with satisfaction that within the next few days a meeting will take place between Chinese entrepreneurs, including from Macau, with other Portuguese-speaking countries to find ways to foster our cooperation," said Ambassador Huang Hua at the end of an audience with the Guinean Prime Minister, Carlos Correia.

China and the eight Portuguese-speaking countries began 2016 with a year on year fall of 18.69 percent in trade in January, which totalled US$6.158 billion, according to Chinese official figures published in Macau. Trade with Brazil totaled US$4.419 billion (-20.61 percent), with China exporting goods worth US$1.682 million (-17.89 percent) and importing goods worth US$2.737 billion (-22.19 percent).

The value of trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries fell by 25.73 percent in 2015 to US$98.474 billion, a real loss of US$34.106 billion, according to official Chinese figures. The only positive changes in the value of trade occurred in Timor Leste (East Timor - US$106.67 million or +76.48 percent) and Sao Tome and Principe (US$7,9 million or +37.99 percent).

The Senegalese subsidiary of Australian company Woodside Energy has acquired a stake in an oil exploration block in the joint development zone between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, the company said in a statement the released Thursday. The statement said that the 65 percent stake acquired by subsidiary Woodside Energy (Senegal) resulted from a production sharing agreement signed with British company Impact Oil & Gas Ltd.

State-owned China CWZX Real Estate Development will support the modernisation of the agricultural sector in Guinea-Bissau under a recently signed agreement with the National Association of Guinea-Bissau Farmers (ANAG). The president of ANAG, Jaime Gomes, told Macauhub in Bissau that the agreement provides for the supply of tractors and training in maintenance and conservation of agricultural products.

The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, José Mário Vaz, is due Tuesday to take delivery of the new Palace of Justice building, built by a Chinese state company, from Chinese Ambassador Wang Huao, announced the Guinean Ministry of Public Works, Construction and Urbanism. The new building will house the Supreme Court of Justice and the Regional Bissau Courts of Auditors and Trade.

The technical secretariat that will prepare the meeting of businesspeople from China and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), taking place on 9 and 10 April next in Bissau, was sworn in Saturday at a ceremony held in the Guinean capital. The meeting aims to bring together the business communities of China, the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and the Portuguese-speaking countries for their representatives to discuss issues of mutual interest and establish business contacts.
