The delegation of Guinea-Bissau, headed by Prime Minister Baciro Dja, was the first to arrive in Macau, on 7 October, in order to attend the 5th Ministerial Conference of Forum Macau, said the Government Information Bureau (GCS). Four delegations arrived in Macau on Sunday - Brazil, headed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Services, Marcos Pereira, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), led by Prime Minister Jose Ulisses Correia e Silva, Mozambique, headed by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario and Timor-Leste (East Timor), led by the Minister of State, Coordinator of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau Aleixo da Silva.

China's support for agricultural production in Guinea-Bissau will soon be extended from Bafatá to other regions of the country, the Chinese ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua announced recently. The ambassador was speaking at the end of a reception that was attended by the Guinea-Bissau authorities, the diplomatic corps and other guests to mark the sixty-seventh anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China on 1 October 1949.

The resumption of International Monetary Fund (IMF) support which Guinea-Bissau hopes to obtain this December will give the country some “breathing space”, Economy and Finance Minister Henrique Horta said in Bissau. Horta made his comments on Monday at the end of the last meeting with an IMF mission in Guinea-Bissau. The resumption of support is very important because it should also motivate partners’ renewed faith in the country along with the much-needed international assistance, he stated.

Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, said in Lisbon that his government is studying the creation of a complex in Macau which will incorporate the various initiatives that are underway to promote Macau as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries . According to a statement from the Government Information Bureau (GCS), the centre will be housed in a single building and bring together interests in economic and commercial areas, offering services for companies, organisation of fairs, meetings and cultural exhibitions and professional training.

TAP - Air Portugal will resume flights to Guinea-Bissau from 1 December, linking Lisbon to Bissau with two weekly flights, the airline said in a statement issued in Lisbon. The operations for Guinea-Bissau had been suspended since December 2013, when the Guinea-Bissau authorities forced the captain of TAP aircraft to carry 74 Syrian nationals travelling with false passports to Lisbon.

A Chinese business delegation currently visiting Guinea-Bissau said on Tuesday it intended to organise a trade fair involving companies from both countries, according to the delegation's spokeswoman. The intention was expressed by Jessica Zhao, spokeswoman for the delegation during a meeting with the Mayor of Bissau (CMB), Adriano Ferreira.

The government of Guinea-Bissau has begun distributing to farmers the agricultural production resources, namely seed and fertiliser, donated by China at a ceremony last weekend in Bafatá. Official information indicates that the donation involves 500 tons of rice seed, 617 of fertiliser and 20 of peanuts, along with bean varieties, and also six new tractors and several power tillers. They will be placed at the disposal of farmers in the country’s 39 sectors and 8 regions, including the Autonomous Sector of Bissau.

A delegation of Chinese technical personnel will soon arrive in Bissau to begin a project to manufacture tractors and other agricultural machinery in Guinea-Bissau, said Beijing’s ambassador in the West African country. Wang Hua made his statement during a Friday ceremony during which he delivered to the Guinea-Bissauan government machinery and other goods meant to help produce rice, “so that the country can become self-sufficient in this cereal”.

Twenty-five executives and technicians from the traditional medicine sector in Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste (East Timor) took part in a symposium in Macau organised by the Training Centre of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau), according to official information. The conference, which began on 18 July was held at the Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry-park, whose facilities were visited on Wednesday by the executives and technicians in order to see current development.

Twenty-five employees from the government tourism agencies of Angola, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Timor-Leste (East Timor) took part in Macau in training activities organised by the Macau Government Tourist Office, between April and July. Training of the last of three groups "successfully" ended last week. The training included an internship at the Tourism Services Office.

Guinea-Bissau raised 11 billion CFA francs (US$18.4 million) with the full placement on Monday of an issue of treasury bonds, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said on Wednesday in Bissau in a statement. "This operation was part of the implementation of Guinea-Bissau's government bond issuance programme, in accordance with the medium and long-term debt management strategy, aiming to meet commitments within the agreed deadlines," the statement said.

Guinea-Bissau plans to issue Treasury Bonds issued in the amount of 11 billion CFA francs (US$18.4 million), the public debt management agency of the West African Monetary Union (UEMOA) said in a statement. The UEMOA - Securities Agency also said the public debt issue, scheduled for next Monday through an auction, has a maturity of three years paying an interest rate of 5.5 percent.
