The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, José Mário Vaz, is due Tuesday to take delivery of the new Palace of Justice building, built by a Chinese state company, from Chinese Ambassador Wang Huao, announced the Guinean Ministry of Public Works, Construction and Urbanism. The new building will house the Supreme Court of Justice and the Regional Bissau Courts of Auditors and Trade.

The technical secretariat that will prepare the meeting of businesspeople from China and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), taking place on 9 and 10 April next in Bissau, was sworn in Saturday at a ceremony held in the Guinean capital. The meeting aims to bring together the business communities of China, the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and the Portuguese-speaking countries for their representatives to discuss issues of mutual interest and establish business contacts.

The economy of Guinea-Bissau grew by 5 percent in 2015 and current revenues amounted to 83 billion CFA francs (US$138 million), "the highest value ever", announced the Minister of Economy and Finance. Minister Geraldo Martins said in a lengthy letter to his ministry staff, released this week on Facebook that "2015 was a good year, despite the political turmoil."

The Chinese ambassador in Guinea-Bissau, Wang Hua, reaffirmed the willingness of his country to continue this year to support the Guinean government in combating poverty and hunger, according to statements made Friday in Bissau. At the end of an audience granted by the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Carlos Correia, the ambassador said some measures had been defined in the framework of bilateral cooperation and gave assurances that such cooperation would be enhanced and extended in the coming years.

China's Fujian Shai Corp will invest over US$300 million in construction of a fishing complex and a luxurious five-star in Prabis, Guinea-Bissau according to statements made by the president of the Chinese company, Yang Ming. The place where the project will be built, 18 kilometres southwest of Bissau, was visited Sunday by a group of businesspeople and investors from China on visit to Guinea-Bissau.
